Texas Hold Em Pro Poker has been enjoyed by many people all over the world for decades. In more recent years, the popularity of online poker has made it an even more widely played game with the masses. The suspense, the mystery of the master bluffer and of course the money makes this game irresistible to many. Even if you are just playing for a couple bucks, or for that matter, just playing for chips, the thrill of winning has many people coming back for more.
There are a number of different poker games you can choose from. However, arguably the most popular one is Texas Hold'em (it is more commonly called just 'Hold'em'). Before you begin playing, especially if you are playing for money, you want to make sure you know how to play correctly (though playing naive can be a very useful bluffing mechanism). There are numerous books you can buy to learn from the comfort of your own home. They will walk you through all of the rules and help you learn strategies that may prove helpful. You can also buy DVD's of lessons or online poker tournaments that will have you learning from the pros how to play like an Ace in no time.
The basic rules are that each player is dealt two cards that they keep secret. These are known as 'hole cards' and they belong to that player alone. Five shared cards are dealt face-up, to form what is called the 'board'. All players in the game use these shared cards in conjunction with their own two hole cards to try and make the best possible five-card poker hand. In other words you will use your two cards with three of the face up shared ones. In Hold'em, you can use any combination of the seven cards available to make your best possible five-card poker hand. You can use none or all of your private cards.
You will want to look up the combination of cards to know what you are looking to get exactly. There is a straight flush which is 5 numbered cards in a row of one suit (like 5,6,7,8.9 of spades). There is four of a kind. A full house is three cards of the same rank and two of a different (like three queens and two fives). You could have a flush which is just five cards of the same suit. A Straight which is five cards in sequence.
Then there are just simple combinations like three of a kind, two pair, one pair, and a high card. You will want to look up what hands rank highest and what beats what. You should remember that poker (as is all gambling) is a game of luck. You really never know who is going to win. You could have a great hand and lose it all or just a high card and win on a bluff. The best way too boost your odds is just to make sure you understand the game.
There are lots of supplies you can buy once you really get into the game, but you will need playing cards and poker chips at the very least. If it is something you find you are really into there are tons of supplies to make it more fun. Special chips are available if you want to get fancy. You can buy a poker table that you can use to host regular poker evenings. Plus there are poker clothes, sunglass, and other accessories to help you feel like the slick poker star you always wanted to be.
It is a great way to bring your friends together for some quality time. Many people host nights once a week. You can kick back, smoke cigars (if it is your thing), and have a few drinks and some food. It is an easy night of entertainment that you can enjoy with little preparation after a hard day or a brutal week. So call all your friends and start your own poker games today.
